The Penang Arts Council is ringing in the festive season early with A Season of Lights and Celebrations – Music for Christmas, a year-end concert at the Grand Ballroom of the Eastern & Oriental Hotel on Sunday 22 November 2026 at 5pm. It is listed on Penang Global Tourism's official events calendar.
The Penang Philharmonic Orchestra and its Chamber Choir will perform a programme built around light, candles and music. According to the listing, it includes Haydn's playful Toy Symphony, selections from Handel's Messiah and traditional Christmas carols, along with music celebrating Deepavali and Thailand's Loi Krathong – a nice nod to the other festivals of light that Penang marks around this time of year.
The concert is pitched at the whole family, with pieces for children as well as adults. Ticket prices and how to book had not been published when we checked, so we've marked them as to be confirmed. Contact the Penang Arts Council at [email protected] or +6012-438 8863, or watch its Facebook page for ticketing news.
Who it's for: families with children, classical music fans and anyone wanting an elegant start to the Christmas season in George Town. Tips: the E&O's colonial setting makes it worth arriving early for a stroll along the seafront or tea at the hotel; street parking around Lebuh Farquhar fills up on weekends, so consider e-hailing; and children who enjoy the Toy Symphony may want to look out for the toy instruments it is famous for.
