Zinister Business is a zine exhibition coming to the Residency Space at Hin Bus Depot from Saturday 14 to Sunday 29 November 2026. The venue's events page bills it as an exhibition with talks and workshops, open on Fridays from 12pm to 7pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 7pm.
Zines are small, self-published booklets, usually photocopied or risograph-printed in short runs, covering anything from comics and personal essays to music scenes, local history and politics. They have a loyal following in Malaysia's independent arts community, and an exhibition like this is a chance to flip through work you won't find in a bookshop and to meet some of the people who make it.
The venue links the exhibition to the Instagram account of 31 Adept Store, so watch that page for the list of contributors and the schedule of talks and workshops. Neither the admission fee (if any) nor workshop fees had been published when we checked, so we've marked them as to be confirmed.
Who it's for: illustrators, writers, students, anyone curious about DIY publishing, and visitors who enjoy Penang's indie art scene. Tips: bring some cash in case zines are for sale, check whether workshops need advance sign-up, and note that the space is only open Friday to Sunday. On weekends you can combine a visit with the Saturday markets on the Deck, including the Kung Bros Collectors Market on 14 November and The Makers Market on 21 November, and with the Thread & Harbour group exhibition in the main gallery from 20 November.
